David is a veteran educator successfully empowering school parent organizations across the country as they modernize their programs into 21st century booster organizations that function as successful small businesses.
Dr. Vandewalker is the assistant director of bands at Georgia State University where the marching band was selected as one of the top 10 college marching bands of 2014 at the College Band Directors National Association Convention and will be featured in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the GSU Winterguard is the current WGI Independent A gold medal national champion.
During his tenure as the Director of Bands at Harrison High School in the Cobb County Public Schools (GA), the booster organization grew exponentially providing physical support with 20+ project teams supporting a fiscal budget that has grown more than 200% over the last decade.
Dr. Vandewalker serves Cobb County as a lead curriculum writer for band as well as the Georgia Music Educators Association as Chair for the State Music Selection Committee. David was honored as the 1995 Teacher of the Year in a National Exemplary School of Excellence. A third generation band director, he received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University, earned his Master of Arts in Education degree from Central Michigan University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University. He is recognized in multiple editions of Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and is a seven-time recipient of the prestigious National Band Association’s National Citation of Excellence Award.
